Meeting God in Prayer

I am a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Louis, Missouri and on behalf of our congregation, I would like to share our most sincere thanks to everyone involved with the production of the video series “Meeting God in Prayer”. This video series was scheduled for our Adult Sunday School Forum on Sunday mornings this past January.

Each week this series drew the largest attendance we have ever had for our Sunday morning Adult Forum, with very few people missing each week. Those that missed a Sunday asked if they could take the video home so they would not miss any part of the series.

We had two visitors that stopped in just to attend our Adult Forum class. It happened to be the first Sunday morning that we started this series, and they continued to come each week for the remainder of this series.

Inactive members that have not been attending worship services were invited to join us for this series. One person that has been inactive for some time, did attend and continued to come for the entire series. She and her husband are now regularly attending services at another church.

One of our members expressed an interest in a weekly prayer group, which will begin to meet on Wednesday evenings this September.

The high school youth Sunday School teacher was not available to teach on the Sunday that we began this series, so we invited the youth to join us. After the video, they broke off into their classroom for their own discussion. The youth really enjoyed the session, and wanted to continue coming for the remainder of the series. Their Sunday School teacher said they really enjoyed the series, asked questions, and had good discussions.

The introduction for this video prepared us with calming music, the words sharing a meaningful message that God meets us in prayer. The scenery focused our thoughts on God’s majesty and great love. We played this each week to prepare our thoughts and hearts for the message.

The questions provided for each series easily prompted sharing and discussion. In addition to the questions provided, I encouraged everyone as they watched the video to write down comments, thoughts, and questions. This also helped promote discussion and sharing.

Most importantly, we could easily relate to each guest speaker on the video. We listened, laughed, cried, and could just relate with them. They shared their thoughts, their experiences so honestly and lovingly, and their love for God so apparent, that they truly spoke to our hearts! This encouraged us, and comfortably led us into meaningful discussions, questions, and lots of sharing.

This series “Meeting God in Prayer” is outstanding, and we highly recommend this to everyone! It has touched and changed our lives! Please share with everyone involved our most sincere thank you and appreciation! This series has impacted us, enriched our lives, and reminded us that prayer is not just talking to God, but a loving relationship with our Heavenly Father.
